Project: Nursing Home Extension and New Care Block – Bishopswood
Client: Hazelhurst Nursing Home
Main Contractor: TBC
Imagery: OHA / David Manson
This project involved a 12 bedroom extension to the existing neo-gothic nursing Home building, as well as the creation of a new 25 bedroom care unit set around an enclosed landscaped courtyard. The site is within steeply sloping terrain and the Wye Valley AONB, meaning a sensitive and careful design was critical. OHA proposed an innovative split roof design to reduce the building height and build cost while brining in natural light and ventilation through a ribbon of high level windows at the centre of each wing. The quadrant floor plan layout ensures all residents have a view to the outdoors, and a secure outdoor space provides access to fresh air for residents without compromising safety or security.
